Traditions


       Traditions are very important to any family during the Christmas season. The biggest tradition is the Christmas tree. Whether you know this or not in a Christian household the tree represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Death is cutting down the tree, disconnecting Christ from God. The burial preparing the tree, as Jesus was prepared for burial. The resurrection is to reconnect Jesus to Father by putting the tree back up. Decorating the tree with lights and other things is Christ glory through his resurrection. What an amazing image of Christ!  

Why are traditions important? They bring families together, hopefully with peace. Traditions are something that the whole family decides on. Without traditions Christmas would not be as glories as it is. I appreciate the moments I have with my family, because life is short, we don't have much time left.  As a child, I made Christmas about me and what gifts I could receive. Now, I learned what the most important gift I given is when I look at the Christmas tree. Christ gave me his amazing grace, and the forgiveness of sin, to live with him forever. That is why I celebrate  Christmas.

Cell Phone vs. Bible




Makes you stop and think where our priorities are?

Cell Phone vs. Bible
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our
cell phones?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we flipped through it several times a day?

What if we used it to receive messages?

What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

What if we used it as we traveled?

What if we used it in case of an emergency?

What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

This is something to make you go, hmmm, where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cellphones, we don’t ever have to worry
about our bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill!

BACK_TO_SCHOOL




How Does God Want Us To Present Him At School?

I have SIX tips for daily life.

1. PRAYER

Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. (Luke 9:16 NIV)

Pray before you eat, as a table (out loud). This really shows how serious you are about your faith. Lead the prayer first, then start ask others to lead. This act will not only bring blessing upon your food, but it will start conversations about Christ. This is the easiest way to speak to students about Christ.

At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. (Luke 4:42 NIV)

When I started being serious about my relationship with God, I would read my bible, but I would never pray. As I grew in His grace I learned that prayer is a valuable thing in our relationship. No matter how much you have to do. You always have time for prayer.

2. THE SWORD

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. (Luke 4:1,2 NIV)

Christ while in the wilderness studying God's word so that he may stand up to every temptation that the devil had for him. Make sure you study God's word to keep your sword sharp, to be able to fight off temptation.

3. MATERIALISM

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? (Luke 9:25 NIV)

Don't worry about getting every achievement or new thing that will give you temporary joy. God will you give joy way beyond what things on earth can give you.

4. UNTOUCHABLES

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him. (Luke 5:13 NIV)

In Jesus' day when you had leprosy, you were cast from your town or village which you lived in. Has society cast some people out of there groups. Go and touch the untouchables like Christ did.

5. WARNING

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. (Luke 6:7 NIV)

Jesus was watched closely, and you will be watched too. Be careful how you live, people are waiting to see you mess up.

6. BUILD UP OTHERS

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29 NIV)

If you didn't read the verse please read it. This is HARDEST thing to live by. Pray that the Holy Spirit will only let things come out of your mouth that are a benefit to those who listen.

Jesus As Light







In church they talk about being the light unto the world. They also talk about how Jesus' is the light. What does the light really mean? How can we become a light?

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. (1 John 1:5, 6 NIV)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7 NIV)

God's light represents what is good, pure, true, and holy. Darkness represents anything evil. To say God is the light means that he is good, pure, true, and holy; he alone cannot go into darkness because he is light. Just a darkness cannot exist in the presence of light, sin cannot exist in the presence of a holy God. To live in the light we must get rid of what is dark, sin cannot be in our lives if we want to walk in the light, like He is in the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. (John 1:9 NIV)

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12 NIV)

We will never become the light. Our job as follower's of Jesus Christ is to be reflectors. As Christ shines His light on us, we are to reflect the light to the world.

Peru Mission Journal (6th Day)




June 29, 2012

Through Christ everything is possible! Today we had a ministry on the street for the little kids of Peru. While we were on the streets today there was at least 2 dozen kids saved and 2 adults saved. How great is God!

Tonight in Church we had the kids come forward to be prayed for. We started to get the kids to pray for their parents or just pray for anyone. We were teaching the kids to pray, which was a amazing experience!


Every service when we have an alter call the whole church wants prayer. Why isn't our Church's full of people that just want prayer? America is so prideful we think we are too good for prayer. I pray we can all soon humble ourselves, and ask for prayer.

June 19,2012

So today we went to Hope house which is an girls orphanage. While we were playing volleyball one of the girls was on my friend Drew shoulders.



One of the girls wanted to get on my shoulders so I put her there. The first couple of minutes the girl was as lite as a feather as the time pasted she got heavier and heavier.



This little girl took my heart away, she is the most little person I have ever seen. All of these girls do not have earthly fathers in their lives. Me and this little girl connected very fast. I hope she saw me as a father that day.

June 18,2012

Today we were able to sleep in a little longer. The beds in Peru are very hard so I did not get much sleep. As I go through the days here in Peru I realize how very blessed we are. Every night we go to church to worship God. The services last very long which is amazing. So tonight like always we get on the bus to go to church. We are sitting on the bus and the translator on the bus said our battery is dead. So us guys got out and pushed the bus to get it started. Praise God the bus started.




At the end of the service we had an alter call for those who want prayer. After I prayed for the people I decided to get on my hands and knees and pray to the God of the universe. Tonight God changed my life FOREVER!

Peru Mission Journal (3rd Day)




June 17,2012

Today started very fast. I got up got dressed for church and ate breakfast. We traveled to church which was about 45 minutes away, we arrived there an hour early. We were ministering to two different services, both services lasted about two hours each. Worship is difficult because of the language barrier. The worship here in Peru is a lot different then they way we worship in the states. In Peru they worship has a lot of dancing. After church we were getting on the bus they had to call us off because we had a flat tire.


So luckily there was a mall near by so we could go have lunch. At the mall you have to pay to use the restroom. As I was walking out of the bathroom I remembered I leaved my passport on the hanger in the bathroom stall. I had already pass the point to were you pay. I yelled in english I have to go get my passport. After yelling that I ran into the bathroom and grabbed my passport saying thank you to the person sitting on the seatless toilet.

We came back to Pat's Place which is the place we stayed all week. We went to another church which was packed with people. They were people standing outside the church it was so full. One of our team members spoke on the Holy Ghost. Then the end of the service when the alter call was given. Drew my friend and I prayed over a young man that wanted to be healed schizophrenia, I have never been part of a healing before or knew the power of the holy spirt could work through me like it did. We prayed that he was healed in Jesus name. As the service went on the whole church wanted prayer and that is just what we did. As we go along in prayer Drew and I came upon a father and a son. The Son of the Father is about two years old. The Father said that the son could not speak so as the need arises we prayed for him.

Peru Mission Journal (2nd Day)






June 16,2012
I woke up taking a very cold shower, found out later that they did not have the hot water turned on.
Today the girls and boys at Pat's Place sang songs and danced for us. We sang a familiar song called "Take It All." We sang and danced to that song in Spanish with the girls.
We went to play on the roof of Pat's Place, and the roof is fenced in so that balls don't get out.


I spent my time playing volleyball and soccer. Volley Ball is the girls sport and soccer is the guys sport. This little girl around 11 or 12 was playing patty cake with me. God was telling me that these things is what brings him glory. I love this place it is so much fun to hang out with the kids and talk to them even though there is a language barrier. I tell all the girls that they are beautiful and they just smile and say thank you. We went to the "Walmart" in Peru. Everyone was staring at me because I was white and so tall. We bought sublime and inca cola.

Peru Mission Journal (1st Day)






June 15,2012
Traveling day
The flight was 6 hours and 14 minutes long. I am looking forward to getting there in Peru. I can't wait to see all the little children. I am praying for many amazing things to occur, and many souls save.


We had chicken and pasta for dinner on the plane. To be honest the food was not that bad concerning it was plane food, I am getting ready to eat a poptart because the food did not fill me up.

Peru Mission Journal (6-11-12)




We are leaving on the 15th! So close! Please pray for safe travels and good health. But more importantly, I ask that we pray for the people of Peru, to prepare their hearts. We pray as a team we can reach souls to the Glory of God!

I will be journaling the whole week about what we are doing on the trip. Hopefully I will have many pictures to share with you all. I will be typing most of my journal and posting them by day.

Peru Mission Journal (5-24-12)




Lifelong Impact

This trip is fast approaching; we have 21 days until we depart. We are having informational meetings about the trip, and what we need to do to get ready. Each time we have a meeting, we have a time where our team leader encourages and teaches us about how Christ is going to explode in our lives.

In one of the meetings, our leader was explaining to us how this trip is only a short time period, but it will have an everlasting impact on us and our lives. This thought had a profound collision in my heart on how I look at everything I do throughout my life.

He said that this trip will not end when we leave, because it will continue to bless the people in Peru eternally. God gives each and every Christian the unique opportunity to do His will. When you do His will, the outcome will have an everlasting impact on the people around you.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things." - Matthew 25:21

Peru Mission Journal (4-27-12)




Enjoying Life

Ecclesiastes 3:4
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

Ecclesiastes 8:15
So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat, drink, and be happy. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.

Last Saturday I went to prom, and I learned a lot about life that night. I learned how to simply let go of all my stress, not to worry about what people were thinking, and enjoy life.

A time to weep, A time to mourn
There are times in our lives that we mourn and weep. It could be a death, a close friend moving, or a close friend betraying you. It could be your children graduating or your children getting married. For Christians, this pain is temporary, for non-Christians this pain overwhelms their life. When you have Jesus in your life, He comforts you, like a father would his children.

A time to laugh, A time to dance
Just like when we weep or mourn, we laugh and dance. There are times in our lives to laugh and enjoy the time you have with people that make you happy, and prom was that time for me. God knows that I am a bad dancer, but I danced anyways. I enjoyed dancing, and making a fool of myself. It's hard to say, but for some people, the Earth is the closest they are going to get to Heaven. For Christians, Earth is the closest they are going to get to hell. I pray through Christ's grace we as Christians can show people true happiness in Jesus.

JUST ENJOY LIFE.

Pray this week that we will enjoy ever moment we are given, and when we are given a time of weeping that we remind ourselves of the comfort that Jesus gives freely. Also pray for everyone to become fully funded for the upcoming mission trip. Thank you again for all the people that have helped me be fully funded for this trip. Thank you for your prayers. Peru Mission Journal (4-4-12)






Jaw-Dropping

Ephesians 3:20,21
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

The overwhelming support by friends and family has been amazing. I thank you for the time you invest in reading my blog, and praying for this trip. The verse above is one of my favorite verses, and it is the theme verse for this weeks prayer. When fundraising for this trip I simply just asked God to bless the people. God does more then we ask or imagine(verse 21). I am fully funded. Not only that but God has given the opportunity to help others become fully funded (that was a previous prayer request!). Isn't amazing how God answers prayers. Through the support, generations will be changed.

We have around 72 days until we leave for Peru. We leave June 15th and we are coming back the 22nd. I would like us to pray for the people in Peru, for their hearts to become open to his word. Continue to pray for all the students to become fully funded. I pray we will all trust that God will do immeasurably more then we ask. This experience is truly Jaw-Dropping.

Peru Mission Journal (3-18-12)





Something Great

Worshiping this morning in a movie theater was amazing. My old youth minister Crockett has followed God's call to plant a church in Hickory, NC. Today was their first gathering, and it was held in a movie theater, which was amazing to say the least.

Crockett talked about how we get overwhelmed. He talked about how moving to Hickory and planting a church is overwhelming. Then, he talked about how he fell to his knees and prayed with his wife about how they just want to surrender their life's completely to God's call and to trust him with everything. When he surrendered it all to God something starts happening, something great, God's will was done. Jesus while he was here on this earth went through an overwhelming time, when he was praying before he was betrayed. Jesus knew what his father wanted him to do. Jesus surrendered what he wanted to do for God's glory, and something great happen. We are forgiven of our sins because of Jesus' decision.,

I hope you can pray this week for the group going on this trip, for everyone to surrender their life to God's call. I pray we can completely trust in God for everything. We need to remember that without Jesus' sacrifice we would have nothing. If we do this something truly great will happen.

Peru Mission Journal (3-7-12)




Wake-Up Call

Today, I experienced a movie called, "Love Costs Everything." This movie is about how Christians are persecuted. This was a soul overwhemling movie, because it talked about missionaries and how they're persecuted. It was eye-opening, because I never really took persecuting seriously until now. This verse was repeatedly used by the preachers and teachers in the movie, "Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Christians! we have nothing to be afraid of!

With going to Peru this summer runs to a risk where we can be persecuted. We are told that it is very safe. Let's not just trust the words of a man, but trust the God of the heavens and the earth to protect us.

So I ask that you will pray for the people going on the trip that they will trust in the Lord's protection. Also for prayer for everyone to be fully funded.

Peru Mission Journal (3-2-12)




So I am starting this Peru Mission journal. This journal with capture everything that is going on with the mission trip, it will keep you up-to-date as well. I don't know if I will do blogs on the side but I will be doing a mission journal close to every week. Then when I am on the trip I will journal everyday , and take a lot of pictures. I will either post while I am there or when I get back. To always be up-to-date go to the top right hand corner of my blog. You will see a place to put your email, I recommend you put your email there so you receive a email of the journal whenever I post a blog.

GUY CODE (3 OF 3)




This is the last blog a the 3 part series "GUY CODE," exploring what guy code is and how we can conform to Jesus's guy code.

So in the last blog we explored what Jesus's guy code looked like. Here are some main points.

Jesus's GUY CODE
- Jesus accepted women
- Jesus taught women
- Jesus cared for women
- Jesus protected women
- Jesus gave respect to women

So how do we transform our GUY CODE for Jesus's?
- Pray for a greater respect for women
- Ask yourself if you have the qualities of Jesus's GUY CODE
- Fix the areas you lack in

How this makes me feel
- I have talked to a couple of guys about this, I even got taught about this at a youth convention
- If you can not treat a women with respect and honor you are not a man.
- I am deeply angered at the boys at my high school that treat girls like complete crap, it time to step up as men and treat women with the respect.
-I am not prefect, I admit, I didn't not always treat girls with respect. It doesn't give me a excuse to keep on doing it. (Romans 6:1
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?)

GUY CODE (2 OF 3)

Exploring Jesus's GuyCode
In the last blog I said that guy code has a lot to do with how you treat women.
Jesus was a accepting. He always accepted women into his life. For example Mary and Martha (Luke 10: 38-42). Jesus accepted the women, he taught the women. Jesus taught more women then any one disciple did while he was alive. So Jesus accepted women without judging them. Jesus also taught women, now I know what your thinking (so I can tell women what to do) No, Jesus taught them. In this story Jesus taught Martha to take a chill pill and chose what is better, and not being worried with all the preparations that had to be made.
Jesus cared about women. In Jesus's darkest moment in life on the cross (John 19: 25-27) He tells John to take care of his mom. In all the hurting and all the pain he cares for a women and says, "Here is your mother."
In Jesus's it was consider a cruse to bear a girl. Women were hated. Jesus protects. In (John 8) Jesus protects the women that was caught in the act of adultery. While writing in the sand Jesus said, "If any of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Jesus protects this women's life.
Jesus gave respect to women. In (Luke 13) he tells the synagogue ruler to not treat women like animals. Jesus healed the women on the Sabbath not just because it was his day anyways. He healed her because, she is a person, a living person, with a heart, Jesus had respect for women.

GUY CODE (1 OF 3)





This topic of "Guy Code," has been tossed around on Facebook. I promised a blog about it, I decided to do a series on this topic. It will be a 3 part series. First part, will be about how today's view of Guy Code and my view of Guy Code line up. Second part, is going to be about how today's view of Guy Code lines up with Jesus's Guy Code. Third part, is going to be about how we can change our Guy Code to Jesus's Guy Code.

What is Guy Code?

Well the funny thing is, after 15 mins on the internet, there is no clear definition of Guy Code. Guy Code is a internal sense between guys that they must follow not to become a (fill blank here).

Today's Guy Code

There is a little show on MTV 2 all about Guy Code. You might notice the picture above ^ . I thought this show was going to really help some guys, but it didn't. This show tries to explain what code you(guys) need to live by. I after three episodes I was deeply sadden. I was sad because this show was suppose to help guy treat girls with the utmost respect.

-Respect/Disrespect

This show basically tells guys how to be disrespectful in the most respectful way. Example: After you have a one-night-stand, calling a cab for her. Now, disrespect is sleeping with her, but you will respect her enough to call a cab after. Pauly D, is notorious for doing this, to be honest it is true. A guy like Pauly D has today's Guy Code.

My Guy Code

Guy Code is mostly about girls. How you treat girls, is a big issue upon guys. Besides following God, treating women like God's daughters is on top.
Treating women like they are suppose to be treated is very hard without having Jesus in your life. I am guilty of not treating girls the right way, and it reflected the relationship I was having with Jesus. Learning how treat women now, will benefit you in the future.

Temptation & Sin

Temptation & Sin

This is Jesus being tempted when he fasting for 40 days. Here is the story if you are not familiar.

Luke 4
Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.”5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” 9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” 12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

Satan will tempt you at three different times:
Hunger
Lonely
Tired
Or weak moments in life. Jesus was all three. I would be too if I was in the desert for 40 days.

How do we say no to temptation like Jesus?

Jesus in verse 1, saids, "Jesus, was full of the Holy Spirit." Yes, the Holy Spirit. This is key if you like me are trying to get rid of sin. Because we fall into it, through temptation. God is the only one who defeated all sin so called upon his name to get you from falling into that sin once again.

A quote from a pastor in Seattle, Washington; said it best about temptation, Mark Driscoll, "Temptation is not a sin; temptation is an opportunity to sin or to worship God. Jesus was tempted. You will be tempted. Jesus said no to temptation and yes to God. And you can do that by the power of the Holy Spirit."

It is a spiritual act of worship to say no to temptation and yes to God.

So in third grade I had a teacher named, "Dr. Giotis." Hope they didn't spell his name wrong as they did my last name in the third grade. This man is my all time favorite teacher. He taught me little, life, lessons, or the LLL for short. As you see he is a Dr., he is a doctor in the bible. Pretty sweet, who do you know that had a Dr. in bible as their third grade teacher?
Dr. Giotis would have us always have our bible of the top of everything. On top of the desk, on top of all our books. As a third grader I didn't
understand why. I just thought that he wanted to teach us about how nothing can be on the top on the bible. Over the years I always remember this LLL. Not only to keep the bible on the top of everything, but on the top on my life, the start of my day, the first thing you go to for help, and the most valuable physical thing that you have.
He always called us by our last name. Like "Mr. Adams" for me. When I was in third grade I just thought this was a cool thing that my teacher did that, but it taught me, that my words have a shaping impact on peoples life's. To always what our words. He did not only called us by our last name, he had a real respect for each one of us.
He taught me how to pray. He would always pray the Lord's prayer. Not only Jesus's words to his students about how to pray but also it was Dr. Giotis teaching me through Jesus. I learned that prayers do not have to be long and sound like a pagan said it. But short and sounds like a child would say it. This teacher like Jesus, taught me little, life, lessons.
I wish I can get into contact with Dr. Giotis and tell him how thankful I am for his teachings. And tell him that I love him and how much he taught me how to live life.

By the name of the blog you probably have no idea what this blog is going to be about. We use the word, "Amen." I wanted to show how important this word really is to Christianity. The word amen appears in the bible 54 times. It first appears in Numbers.

Numbers 5:22
22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.”
“‘Then the woman is to say, “Amen. So be it.”

The word is Amen is in the last book of the bible, in the last chapter, in the last verse, and Amen is the last word.

We use this word as the end of every prayer, and when the preacher saids something awesome!! What does it mean?

Amen - expression of agreement

We use this word when we agree with something that someone saids. When you say amen at the end of the prayer you are agreeing with the prayer. If you don't agree with what they said I wouldn't say amen because, you wouldn't agree with it. I don't say amen to prayers I don't agree with, this rarely happens though. So next time your around me, you pray, and I don't say amen, don't think I didn't agree with your prayer. Haha.

The reason for the season, Jesus. Every year at Christmas we hear from Christians, "Keep Christ in Christmas." No one has never really answered this question. So as a person that wants to keep Christ in Christmas, I am going to show you how I think we can tackle this task that we run into every year.

Colossians 3:2

2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

During the Christmas season we are focused on shopping. Gifts are things that are earthly. Instead of focusing on gifts, we should focus on heavenly things like in verse 14, Love. We just need to love one another, and enjoy one another. I think we can all agree that it is more about the time we spend with our family and friends.

2. The Christmas Story

Read the Christmas story. If you have kids take the time and sit down as a family and read the story. You will always be reminded of the incarnation of Jesus. The incarnation of Jesus is God becoming man. Jesus was a real physical human being, he had to learn how to speak and how to walk. One more reason to thank Jesus for everything he has done for us.

3. What Changes?

If we keep Christ in the center of our lives. Why do we have a problem with keep him at the center of Christmas? Well it seems like Christians do not have a problem keeping Christ in Christmas. Why we Christians see it as a problem is because there is so many non-Christians that are taking the true meaning out of Christmas. It is our responsibility to show non-Christians the true meaning of Christmas.

4. JESUS

Thank Jesus. He has done more for us then we could ever ask or think of. He gives the true gifts. He gives us our spiritual gifts, gifts of hope, gifts of faith, and the best gift of all his GRACE.
